This Surprising Secret to Six-Pack Abs Is Inspiring People Everywhere

All right, I have a very important question for you. On a scale of 1-10, how hard is it to get six-pack abs?

Most people say it’s an eight or a nine or even a 10, and that’s what I used to think too. In the past, I struggled so hard to get lean. Trainers and fitness experts always recommended workout routines that emphasized cardio and focused on circuits and high-rep weightlifting regimens that left me tired, hungry and overtrained.

I often asked myself: Do I follow everyone’s advice and settle for being in decent shape with some muscle, but never that rock hard six-pack? Or is there another way to train that would let me enjoy life and have the physique I was looking for?

If we’re meant to be fit, then why is it so damn hard to get into shape? Shouldn’t it be effortless?

My extensive research into nutrition and athletic training led me to a surprising conclusion: Everything I had been told about my personal fitness was wrong. All of the advice I was following was not only making it harder for me to lose fat, but also making it easier for my body to store calories.

Do you want to know the unexpected fitness secret I uncovered that will give you the physique that you deserve?

I’m going to give you four steps that will make losing fat easier.

1. Breakfast has never been the most important meal of the day.

This is absolutely the craziest and most surprising discovery I’ve made: We’re not supposed to eat first thing in the morning. Nutritionists tell us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that, afterwards, we should eat six small meals 2-3 hours apart. This belief is simply not true, and it’s keeping you from achieving your fitness goals.

Humans inherited their genetic history from their hunter-gatherer ancestors.

In pre-agrarian societies, humans would hunt and gather throughout the day and would typically only feast in the evenings, once their work had been completed. This practice was more than simply a schedule; it’s human biology. Our bodies are programmed to fast.

Intermittent Fasting Is the Key to Priming Your Body for Fat Loss

I teach people to fast for the first five hours of the day. I wake up at 8 a.m., and I won’t eat until at least 1 p.m. During my daily fast, I’ll satiate my hunger with sparkling water and black coffee.

Between the five-hour fast and bedtime is your eating window, which is where you’ll consume about two meals and supplement your caloric intake with fruit.

You’ll soon discover that losing fat becomes effortless because my method of intermittent fasting does not slow down your metabolism or cause you to lose muscle mass. In fact, my program actually increases fat burning, boosts growth hormone and allows you to store more calories in your muscle tissue.

2. Cutting carbohydrates from your diet is not a long-term strategy for six-pack abs.

I once bought into the narrative that we need to cut carbohydrates from our diets to lose fat. Carb-restricted diets may help people lose weight initially, but they will never get you to six-pack status sustainably.

Here’s the problem: Cutting carbs will decrease calories, which encourages short-term weight loss, but it also decreases your hormonal output and the efficiency of your metabolism. Carbs actually influence two of your body’s important hormonal processes that govern your metabolism — leptin, which sets the pace for appetite and energy levels, and thyroxine and triiodothyronine, two thyroid hormones that control your metabolic ability to convert oxygen and calories into energy.

What does this mean? Six-pack abs require dietary balance. Eating the right amount of carbs will refill your muscle glycogen, boost leptin and allow you to get leaner, while also maintaining higher metabolic efficiency and increased energy levels.

I treat myself to a high-carb day every week, which boosts my energy levels and ensures my metabolism never declines.

3. Cardio is not the path to six-pack abs.

The accepted truth about six-pack abs is that cardio is king. Fitness experts extol the virtues of training regimens that focus on high-rep circuits. These programs may do wonders for athletes with performance goals, but they have little impact on developing chiseled Hollywood abs.

Lifting heavy weights means less time in the gym.

Lifting heavy weights will give your body the muscular density that will ensure that when you do slim down, you’ll reveal amazing muscle tone. Six-pack abs don’t come from doing a million reps. You can’t actually tone muscles, but you can make them bigger, stronger or smaller.

Focusing on compound lifts three times each week, will give you muscle density you need.

4. Walking is the secret weapon in the battle for shredded abs.

Fitness doesn’t have to be complicated. Believe it or not, walking is the secret to my six-pack abs. Walking burns calories without increasing appetite, and it doesn’t negatively impact recovery. I do about an hour of walking several times each week, and I’ll walk everyday when I want to lean down a little faster.

Walking is an excellent way to maintain your body weight, and it also prevents heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, according to the Mayo Clinic. The faster, farther and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits.

An hour of walking everyday combined with the appropriate carb intake, my fasting program and the right lifting routine will help you achieve and sustain your six-pack abs.
